Importance of Early College Preparation

Importance of Early College Preparation College preparation  is extremely  important  to  college  success for students.  Although many decisions are made during the senior year, it is best to begin the college process as early  as high school freshman year. Knowing this, it’s crucial for freshman students to complete these tasks before the end of the school year: Answer the questions: How are you doing academically? How would you rate your current academic performance? If you feel as if you are struggling, now is the time to get some help from a tutor and make sure you will be able to pass your tests. If you are unprepared, you  can fail an assignment or class, which leads to stress and hopelessness. Get involved in a school activity.  Being a member of the chess club, art club, sports, etc.  is a great way to dive into your passions and interests outside the classroom. If you are having difficulty, talk to someone (teacher, tutor, or counsellor). Make a plan for next years courses.  Advanced classes should certainly be a part of this plan. Choose an inspiring community service project  such as collecting toys for a local shelter, planting a community garden etc. Make some preliminary college visits. Wander around, explore the campuses, talk to students. Find out what you like and dont like about the campuses.  It’s never too early to  visit colleges ??

World Teachers` Day 2015

World Teachers` Day 2015 World Teachers` Day is on October the 5th every year. It is a very special day. It celebrates some of the world`s most important and valuable to society people teachers. Today I want to thank all teachers for our greatest achievements. Because they teach us much more than just science, math, and language.  They teach us how to live, how to tell right from wrong, and show us the right way. Teachers might play different roles in our life: mother, nurse, mentor, tutor, guru. They are knowledgeable, patient, enthusiastic and kind. Good teacher can completely change our life. Teachers show us each day how to be kind to each other and to ourselves. Teachers motivate and inspire us, and give us strength to succeed in life. Teachers teach us idea that with hard work there is nothing impossible. They give us the chance of a better future. Teachers make the great contributions to education and the development of societies and nations. Teachers are true heroes! To show the power of the teachers, I want to quote Henry Brooks Adams: A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops. TutorZs team congratulates all the amazing tutors who work with us! Happy Teachers Day!

ESL Correct Usage Of The Article `the`

ESL Correct Usage Of The Article `the` Just like many of our students who find tutors on the TutorZ site, I am also an English as a second (ESL) language speaker. For ESL speakers like us, the correct usage of the definite article the can be somewhat hazy My ESL friend Anna Niko  is a Russian speaker. The Russian language uses no articles whatsoever. So for Anna, using articles has been particularity interesting. Thats why she taught   at TutorZ the following: The definite article the is the most frequent word in English. We use the definite article in front of a noun when we believe the listener knows exactly what we are referring to. For example: The president of the United States The moon is so big tonight. Further uses of the definite article if there is only one in that place or in those surroundings: Dad, can I borrow the car? We live next to the church. We also use the definite article when we say something about all the things referred to by a noun: The wolf is not really a dangerous animal. The kangaroo is found only in Australia. When we use countries the usage of the define article becomes tricky. The is dropped when we refer to Germany, Italy, and France, even though these countries are very unique, in fact the only one existing. We dont say the Germany, the Italy, the France. However, when talking about countries that consist of individual parts such as the US (United States), the UK (United Kingdom), the UAE (United Arabic Emirates) then the article the is kept. Note the correct usage of the definite article in The US vs. England The Russian Federation vs. Russia In a similar vain, the definite article is dropped before days of the week, parks, streets, mountains and lakes. For example, Ive been to Lake Ontario. However, unlike lakes, when referring to oceans, the definite article is kept. For example, we overflew the Atlantic Ocean. The picture below illustrates how the usage of the the depends on its context. In summary, use the definite article is used before singular and plural nouns when the noun is specific or particular. If in doubt, ask one of our 3000+ ESL tutors.

After School Hours - ALOHA Mind Math

After School Hours Watching TV, Playing on the computer and video games are the most common after school activities of kids this generation. There surely is nothing wrong doing these activities but they should be done in moderation. I am sure you agree with me here, don’t you? Most parents who work want to see after school time as a holding place for their children. Kids today see after school time as fun time, play time or simply hang out time. But how many parents actually are taking that seriously and actually putting some thought to how their kids should spend their time resourcefully after school? Research today clearly shows that kids benefit greatly from participating in after-school activities. In a 2008 study, research found that the 17 percent of kids who didnt participate in activities were more withdrawn and socially immature and had lower self-esteem in comparison to their more busy peers. Few thoughts to what actually after school activities should serve as: · Physical activity · Development of socialization · Peer relationship skills, · Promote learning · Homework, and so on How should parents go about this? Make afterschool activities useful by first assessing the child’s needs. Do what you can, given your time, money, and availability of programs. Evaluate every three months to see whether you are achieving your goals. Once you have decided on activities that achieve most of the above goals another important point to keep in mind is that Physical safety and activity appropriateness are paramount for your child. I think we could use this as forum to address any concerns regarding after school activities and get help from other readers. At the same time if you would like to share your experience about development of children who are already part of after school activities the space is yours go ahead and let us know your story.
